Feb 12, If you have a cut, (or in the case of the tree, cause a cut), to the skin, then you want to clean it and then seal it up so it doesn't get infected. So he always insisted on cutting limb/secondary trunk as close as possible to the trunk at a high angle slant, (as it appears you did), then to seal that cut so water won't degrade the exposed wood.
Use loppers for smaller branches and curved hand pruning saws for larger stems.
May 17, Diseased and rotten limbs must be removed to save a double-trunk tree and so must co-dominant trunks. Remove them at the collar, well below the diseased portion. Cutting. I have a mature oak tree that had a double trunk.

Yesterday I had one of the trunks removed by a professional tree remover. The cut left an 18" diameter stump that has not been treated with fungicide or tar. I want to keep the remaining trunk as healthy as possible.
Should I do anything to the stump to protect it from fungus or disease? May 07, Cut one side of the double trunk (side leaning towards home) I've included pics but have two in particular the one triple trunk and another double trunk. Thanks in advance for the feedback Dark Picture (shows tree leaning over home-I'll upload others in the future)Estimated Reading Time: 9 mins.
I would remove the second trunk (the smaller one growing at an angle) on the oak. First, remove the turf around the tree and dig an inch or two (or three) down until you find the root flare, where the trunk bulges out. That should be above the soil. At this point, you will find where the second trunk attaches to the main trunk.
Feb 27, Trees grown together can provide a special challenge. Luckily we had room to drop them in their favored direction. I cut between them with a 25" bar to sep. Aug 15, In this video I talk about the easiest way I know of in regards to felling trees/stems that are bigger than your chainsaw bar.
I learned this stuff from a cl. By cutting the trees at a 45 degree angle you prevent water from sitting on the stump, which goes a long way in delaying rot. Usually the main stem that is left prevents further stump sprouting until it is harvested. By cutting the poorer stems out, you push more growth on to.
